folks, it's been FIFTEEN weeks since i got my ear pierced!!! i just counted. wow, that's a lot of weeks.
it's been really hurting lately, so that's why i counted. and i'm still SHOCKED that it hasn't gotten infected. i just knocked on wood. it's even still hard to sleep on my left side because it hurts still. is that normal? what would happen if i took out the piercing??? would it close up? would it hurt more or less? so, for the rest of my life, is my body going to be trying to close up that hole? or will it eventually be like, "hm, okay, she's got this metal post stuck through it, let's let her have it."
i guess it hurts so much because i'm constantly playing with it. i STILL can't get over it. it's still very foreign.
anyways. i wanted to figure out how many weeks it had been for my own personal knowledge, and then i thought, "ah, what the heck, let's just share it with the world."
i am OFFICIALLY going to watch a new ep of Heroes tonight. i am ALL caught up to where i was when i left off almost two years ago.
everytime i see George Takei on Heroes i get really mad at him for not speaking at our graduation. well, not really mad. just like, "aw man, it would have been really cool if he hadn't cancelled." he would have been way cooler than Dean's Beans.
he plays Hiro's father on the show. and it's pretty funny because Hiro and his best friend Ando are like, totes huge Star Trek fans. it makes me smile.
OH OH OH!!!!! tonight i went to the grocery store and guess what i saw?!!?!? someone was buying Digestives!!!!!!!!! DIGESTIVE COOKIES!!!!!! oh, we ate sooo many Digestives in Ireland. ours were covered in chocolate and had caramel on the inside. they were pretty delish. and, i saw the woman pick up the box and i thought, "hey, you're not Joe. what are you doing??" but, she didn't notice me awkwardly staring at her, and then she left. but, i was really excited because i had kind of forgotten about Digestives until tonight.
anyways. it's 11pm. i'm going to make some supper. Ruby Tuesday had her supper. she'll get second supper later.
so, i was supposed to work tomorrow night, but then i got a call saying that i actually didn't need to work. i'm bummed about that because i wanted the hours and i also wanted to hang out with a baby. but, hopefully there will be other times.
and in even more exciting news::: Tammy and Jenn are coming to visit me this weekend!!! i'm so excited! i haven't seen them for a super long time. Jenn says that they are coming up on friday night and staying until saturday afternoonish. sounds great!! they are my oldest friends. not in age. but, in friend longevity. we built many a chalk city together as children.
that's it! i think. at least for now. how has your night been?? did you do anything fun and exciting?!! let me know, duh!!!! i always want to know what my readers are up to. and by readers, i mean friends.
take good care.

people vs. cheese
i know, it's not even 10am and i'm already awake and posting. that's because i had to get up at 6am and drive to concord, new hampshire. stay there for ten minutes. and then drive back. it didn't really feel like a lot of driving. it was 122 miles total. i think it's not as bad because i was driving the work van and not my car. everything just feels better not in my car.
so before i left this morning i packed a snack and a drink for myself. a little bag of my Star Trek cheese-its and some raspberry tea. i was sooo looking forward to enjoying them on the ride home.
and, i drove down with a resident, but drove back by myself, so i was alone now. and i got out my iPod and connected it to the radio thing. that was nice.
and i'm eating my cheese-its and just kind of thinking about them. there are two flavors in the box, Sharp Cheddar and Parmesean. they go together nicely.
so then i start thinking, 'did they make these the Star Trek flavors because they remind someone of Kirk and Spock?'
SO THEN, i spent probably a good fifteen minutes trying to decide what cheese Kirk and Spock would be, if they were Sharp Cheddar and Parmesean.
first, i immediately thought Spock would be Sharp Cheddar. because he's sharp like a tack. and Kirk has a little more flavor, a little more edge, like Parmesean.
and i had a pretty heated internal debate. i'm kidding, it wasn't heated. but, i went back and forth a few times.
but the deciding question i asked myself was this: "if Parmesean were a person, would it have pointy ears?" and i decided: Yes. yes it would have pointy ears.
and so it was finished:
Spock = Parmesean
Kirk = Sharp Cheddar
and....that has been The Most Useless Thing You Will Hear All Day. Thanks for joining! See you next time.
i guess the funny part is, i technically was being paid to think that that stuff. and to listen to Lovegame on repeat. i'd like to play the lovegame with kirk and spock. oooo that's another entry...
so, then my iPod kind of crashed. i was upset and worried. my iPod never crashes. and i immediately thought, "oh no! the summer of crashing!!!" because i forgot to factor in my ipod into everything else in my life breaking. that would be a pretty hard blow.
and then i listened to Let the Sunshine In sung by the new cast of Hair. the cd was released quite recently and i only remembered it yesterday!!! if i had more money, i would have bought the whole cd. but, i only got that one song. and i listened to it. and it was great.
and then. something extraordinary and terrifying happened.
i saw three deer.
i saw three baby deer. not one. not even two. BUT THREE. my first immediate reaction was, "WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!?!!?!" they were walking across the street.
and then. now, maybe it was the fact that i was in an, "everything is beautiful, everything is love!" mood after listening to Hair. but after thinking that first thought, my second thought was, "awwww they can't even walk that well because they are babies!"
it was true! they were stumbley looking and very tiny. the one in the back really couldn't walk fast at all because he was so little. and, i felt compassion for the deer. for the first time in my life.
so, i don't know if this is a change of heart or what. i was surprised i felt this way. deer are my number one hated animal. which is a tension point for me and Kara because deer are her number one favorite animal.
but, i felt nice after. i didn't hate the deer. maybe because they were babies. i don't know. i guess i could tell you that i'll wait and see how i feel the next time i see a deer....but, i really hope that doesn't happen.
and i came home and Ruby Tuesday was waiting for me. she runs over to the door everytime i come home. and she starts crying and rolls over onto her back and stretches out on the floor. and then she always runs right to her food dish looking for more food. no matter what time it is. no matter when she has eaten last. she always wants more food.
her food schedule is as follows:
- half a packet of wet food around noontime
- half a packet of wet food between 5 - 7pm
- half a packet of wet food between 2 - 3am
but like, last night. i fed her at 7:30. by 9:30 her food bowl was licked completely clean and she was crying and crying for more. and she managed to open the cabinet where i keep her food and she climbed in. she's a smart one.
she's taking a nap right now. which i am going to go very shortly. i thought i could finish season one of heroes last night, but it got to be 2:30am and i was too tired. so, i have ONE MORE episode of season 1 and then i'm done!!! then i can start where i left off almost two years ago.
i just read the Claire Bennet will have a lesbian scene in the upcoming season. what?
so, i will finish season one tonight. start season two. and watch more of season two!!!! i'm excited and nervous!!
i hope you all have a lovely monday. it's blue skies here and i hope it is where you are too. wherever you may be. where are you?

the lovegame
that song by Lady Gaga? i'm totes into it right now. although, it has some pretty explicit innuendo.
anyways. i just finished watching The Wrestler. i had been putting off watching it because i was nervous about all the violence. so, i decided to watch it during the day.
MAN. what a film. great, great film. it was just like, really good. Mickey Rourke was awesome. the first probably....half hour or so was pretty violent. one part in particular. but even through that, it was still so good.
and, i don't know if you remember this, but i kept thinking back to my writing seminar that i took last year and the kid in my class wrote about that wrestler who killed his wife and son and then committed suicide. and he pretty much couldn't function anymore because his body and his brain was so damaged from the sport. sport? job? game? what is wrestling anyways? but, that story really affected me during the class, i remember. it's just all so incredible to me that people put themselves through this.
and i was thinking this through the whole movie. like, "why the heck is he putting himself through this??" and then at the end of the movie, there was one line that completely explained the entire thing. like, the entire film summed up in one line.
so, he's about to go into the ring after not wrestling for a while. his life is kind of falling apart. and someone is trying to convince him not to wrestle, not to go back in. and he says to her,
"ya know, the only place i get hurt is out there."
oh, such a great line. he means, not in the ring. it really put the whole movie into perspective. wow. great movie. great job, Darren Aronofsky. he's married to Rachel Weisz.
i'm kind of perplexed as to why Sean Penn won. i guess i have to see Milk again. i just remember not being that impressed with it. but, i won't get into the whole "brad" thing again. and the whole "leo" thing again. i'll wait until next awards season.
YEAH: see The Wrestler. i only had to close my eyes once.
oh, and i was so in love with Mickey Rourke's long blonde hair. oooo yes please. he was in the movie Spun with Jason Schwartzman and i was listening to that soundtrack the other day. and then i watched a clip on youtube of my favorite part. i named my blog after that clip. little known fact. that's a great movie. Spun. drug movie. meth users. Jason Schwartzman is awesome. and the soundtrack is top notch.
speaking of J.Schwartzman, has everyone seen his hilarious video for 'Microphone?' off of the new Coconut Records CD, Davy. great cd. better than the first. i just love him. he's probably one of those guys who if he asked me to marry him, i would just do it. no matter what.
- Jason Schwartzman
- Leo DiCaprio
- maybe Ewan McGregor
they come and they go, but some always remain.
anyways. yesterday when i was at Shaw's, there was this super cutie there. like, another shopper. he was wearing a red t-shirt, which made me extrememly happy because it was in spirit of the fourth of july. and, since i was wearing blue and white, we would have gone together pretty darn well.
i first saw him in the pet food aisle. he kind of stared at me for a long time. and then i went to get some whole wheat multi-grain bread. i saw him again in a different aisle. then again while i was checking out. i thought he was going to come in line behind me, but he chose a different cashier. i was really hoping he wouldn't notice that i bought Star Trek cheese-itz. i mean, what? no i didn't. who does that? definitely not me.
and then i walked out of the store a head of him. but he followed shortly after. and he got into a car with a tiny little dog. it was a semi-cute scene. whatever. he was a cutie. and then we drove away together. he went north to vermont, where his license plate was from. and i went to walgreen's to buy allergy medicine.
but, i think i made a smart decision about the allergy medicine even though i was still excited about the shaw's cutie.
so, i was standing there in the allergy aisle. an aisle i know so well. and i'm about to spend almost $25 on a 12 day supply of pills and a 30 day supply of eye drops.
and i'm thinking to myself. actually, i might have been thinking outloud, i can't really remember. but i hadn't been taking any allergy medicine for a couple days because i had run out and didn't want to leave the house (meaning, couch) to go get some. and i hadn't really been feeling any worse. meaning that the allergy medicine really wasn't doing anything to make me feel better.
so, i made the decision not to get any more allergy medicine. if it's not making me feel better and just keeping me from sleeping, then WHY would i continue to take it?? i'll wait until i can get a super medicine from the doctor which i have yet to find.
but, i did get the eye drops. those are crucial. i tried going without those for a few days and MAN.
so, i woke up saturday morning and could barely open my right eye. it felt like someone had punched me and it was all bruised. oh, it really, really hurt. and then as i was trying to remember if i had gotten into a "captain kirk" fight the previous night, i semi-remembered waking up in the middle of the night and furiously rubbing my eye because it itched/hurt so bad. so then i was worried that maybe i rubbed it hard enough to bruise it. so, i went to the mirror and no, it was not bruised. but, it still hurt. but, i eventually got it opened.
so, i decided that the $11 bottle of eye drops was, in fact, working MUCH MUCH better than the $4 bottle and it was definitely worth having. so, i purchased. it's cool because they're 12 hour drops, so you only put them in twice a day. and they really, really help. it's the generic Zaditor, or something. it makes me think of the fortune teller machine in Big. i guess they both work magic.
Ruby Tuesday is sleeping on one of Aliya's rocks right now and it's extremely cute. i took a bunch of pictures of her with my phone. um, because my phone has a camera. did you know that? like, one that can take pictures. unreal. i can't get over it. it can also take video and record sound. what?! wait a minute!
now i'm going to walk to the library and return a book. last night i was talking to the resident we have here and she was telling me that she was really dreading the staff who was working today and didn't want to be with her, etc, etc. so, i said that i needed to walk to the library and return a book and i asked if she would want to come with me. she said yes and i think she was happy i asked.
and then tomorrow, i'm leaving at 6:30 AM to drive one of the girls to Concord to the bus terminal. she's leaving. it's an early day, but i can come back and take a nap. and it's free gas and it's basically just driving. i'll wait with her to make sure she gets off safely, though. i'll be sad.
oookkk. i should get going. um, what? it's 5pm?? when did that happen? that movie was only 1.75 hours but it took me like, 3 to watch it? what? that doesn't make sense. it must be that time warp that was in the living room the other day.
anyways, have a great rest of the weekend. i'm thinking about you. and just know that i really enjoy these talks. i look forward to them, as i hope you do.
best!

like valentine's day only not as pretty.
you all better be wearing red, white and or blue today. i'm wearing blue and white. i almost wore my red earrings from the wedding, but i decided that might be over kill on the patriotism. we don't want people to get the wrong idea.
no, i'm kidding. i celebrated today by watching Entourage, tending to my seasonal and pet allergies, and drinking Argentinian tea.
happy fourth. i am half-american, after all. and since i posted a picture on Canada Day of me in Canada, i thought that today i would post a picture of me in the United States.

this is me and my bestest friend Maria in Rockefeller Center. New York City. the center of the universe. what a great city! this was during my blonde hair phase.
oh, this is silly. hope you all have a great day. today is a great day because it means the entire country will smell like a barbeque.
if you go see fireworks tonight, please enjoy them and be safe.
happy independence day.

is that a wand in your pocket?
OK. i just read an article about sexuality in the Harry Potter movies. it asks the question, "does anyone want this?" meaning, sex. in the HARRY POTTER MOVIES.
let me use my powers as a master blogger to speak for the entire world.
NO. NO NO NO.
notice how i even put the first 'no' in bold. and i hate using bold. it's only for extreme situations.
this next HP movie is rated PG. why are we even asking ourselves this question?!?! these Hogwarts kids ARE STILL KIDS. kids will go see this movie. there is no need to sex up the plot.
there is no need to sex up ANY PG movie. COME ON ratings board!!! get it together! the way that films are being rated nowadays is seriously upsetting me.
just given the content in the sixth Harry Potter book the movie should have been rated PG-13.
there is a DEATH in this book. a serious death of a beloved character. if we look back to the fourth movie (which was rated pg-13) there was a death of a student. that was upsetting. a kid died. to be more specific, it was the hottie from Twilight, so that made it even worse.
the past two HP's have been pg-13. the plot only gets darker and scarier. yet this movie is rated pg. what?! how does this make sense?? Harry is angry in this one. he gets all emotional and angsty on us. he's what like, 16 in this one? 16 or 17?
i don't know why these film ratings really bother me. i've been bothered all year. and once in a while it just really gets to me. like now. take us back to last summer, when The Dark Knight was released. man, that should've been R. that was an intense psychologically disturbing film. violent and dark. and yet it was rated the same as Mamma Mia!? really? does this not make sense to anyone else??
i remember writing an essay my sophomore year in high school called something like, "is there too much violence in children's movies?" and the answer was YES. and i thought this when i was a sophomore. i believe i used Sleeping Beauty and The Lion King as examples. and this was like, 8 years ago!
clearly i need to be the president of the ratings board pronto.
let's even think about our TV shows. since i'm currently re-watching Heroes, let's take that one. what the heck would that be rated if it was in movie-form?? i vote R. the ep i watched last night included an image of a woman hanging upside down, her skull ripped open and blood pouring down her arm onto the floor. great! let's put that on tv so everyone can watch!!!
terrific.
even language. this also bothers me. violent language in movies. swearing all over the place for everyone to hear. i try, try, try my best not to swear at all because i really don't like the way it makes me feel. i always feel like i'm letting myself down when i swear. i guess that's more personal.
but still.
dear ratings board: smarten up.
dear parents: pay attention.
love to you and everyone because there's not enough of it,
julie

this next HP movie is rated PG. why are we even asking ourselves this question?!?! these Hogwarts kids ARE STILL KIDS. kids will go see this movie. there is no need to sex up the plot.
there is no need to sex up ANY PG movie.
16 or 17?
i don't know why these film ratings really bother me. i've been bothered all year. and once in a while it just really gets to me. like now. take us back to last summer, when The Dark Knight was released. man, that should've been R. that was an intense psychologically disturbing film. violent and dark. and yet it was rated the same as Mamma Mia!? really? does this not make sense to anyone else??
i remember writing an essay my sophomore year in high school called something like, "is there too much violence in children's movies?" and the answer was YES. and i thought this when i was a sophomore. i believe i used Sleeping Beauty and The Lion King as examples. and this was like, 8 years ago!
clearly i need to be the president of the ratings board pronto.
let's even think about our TV shows. since i'm currently re-watching Heroes, let's take that one. what the heck would that be rated if it was in movie-form?? i vote R. the ep i watched last night included an image of a woman hanging upside down, her skull ripped open and blood pouring down her arm onto the floor. great! let's put that on tv so everyone can watch!!!
terrific.
even language. this also bothers me. violent language in movies. swearing all over the place for everyone to hear. i try, try, try my best not to swear at all because i really don't like the way it makes me feel. i always feel like i'm letting myself down when i swear. i guess that's more personal.
but still.
dear ratings board: smarten up.
dear parents: pay attention.
love to you and everyone because there's not enough of it,
julie

SPACE!!! the final frontier
some kind of phenomenon was happening in my living room this afternoon. i was cleaning my kitchen and i went into the living room to change the song that was playing on my laptop. and i stepped into the living room and didn't even notice it at first glace.......
BUT THEN!!! i saw it. and i actually jumped back and gasped. it was like Star Trek in my living room. for realz.
and then, i reached for my camera. i actually reached for it quite sneakily, like the phenomenon would go away if it saw me moving. and i captured quite a few pictures which i could not wait to show to you. this happened like, maybe 20 minutes ago. it got me so excited. i seriously just basked in the phenomenon for quite a while.
ok, here we go.
Julie's Phenomenal Phenomenon

isn't that beautiful?!??! oh, i just loved it. it was such a nice surprise phenom. i love it when those happen.
so, these pictures were all taken on my ceiling. it was like a SUPERNOVA!!!!!! it was like the sun in the middle of the star cluster was experiencing a supernova and the rainbow is the beautiful remnants of what once was....
what? no i don't know what i'm talking about. so, i had this cd on my coffee table and the bottom was facing up. and the sun was coming through the window at just the right moment. it's completely gone now.
but. i really had myself tricked for a few moments until i realized what was causing it. i mean, i don't know what i thought it was. i didn't really think it was some space phenomenon. (for too long). i was kind of let down by the CD on the coffee table. ah well.
it was exciting while it lasted.
i should go back to cleaning my spaceship. um, i mean apartment.
what else could i call this? a time warp? moving at warp speed? i could say that it was an effect of my apartment moving at warp speed. i guess that doesn't really make sense seeing that apartments are usually stationary.
anyways. i'm reorganizing my kitchen. it's like a totally new place. i mopped the floor again. it actually looks pretty awesome.
next up will be the living room. and then bedroom. and then front room. and then lastly, will be the tiny room. because i have a feeling that i will throw all the extra stuff into the tiny room. so, i will go through it last.
i also need to get out at some point and run some errands. but ever since i got this new furniture i just don't want to leave the house. everything is so comfortable.
i just want to sit on my couch in front of the air conditioner and watch Heroes. i just watched the ep where Sylar terrorized Claire's mom. ooo that was scary. and she was making fajitas for dinner!!! i thought of kara. at first i thought, "ooo she should invite kara over for dinner too!" but then i thought, "actually no, because Sylar will be there."
but, i thought of something that i remember thinking while watching Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight. it was in the scene where the Joker and his entourage terrorize the party fundraiser for Harvey Dent. and i remember thinking, "what would he do if someone just went up to him and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek?"
and i also thought of that last night while watching Sylar be horrible to Claire's mother. would he really cut your skull off if you were making out with him? i kind of remember reading something that was like, "i wouldn't mind if Sylar killed me because at least the last thing i saw would be totally hott." and i was like, "hm. valid point."
ookk. hope you enjoyed my afternoon phenomenon. i feel like i call it something different each time. it has many names.
have a lovely evening!!!

mcadams loves gosling?
OK. i'm a tad upset about this.
i was just reading Entertainment Weekly's list of the 25 Best Movie Tearjerkers. now, i'm not saying that Titanic needs to be number one on every "best" movie list ever created.....but, it at least needs to be higher than THE NOTEBOOK.
on this list, Titanic ranked #16, while the notebook was like, #11. COME ON. who cried during The Notebook? did you? i didn't. lame movie. although, Rachel McAdams has nice hair in that movie and also James Marsden is in it and he's a charmer.
Brokeback Mountain was in the top 5, i think. along with Bambi. both movies which i approve of. movie not on the list? A Little Princess. that's the only movie i am guaranteed to cry at every time. EVERYTIME.
in other, more exciting news, i got to hear an unborn baby's heartbeat for the first time today!! it was really awesome. like, really awesome. it's a little boy.
in re-watching heroes news, i decided that i like Nathan a lot better the second time around. and, as much as i really, really try to hate the cheerleader, she's just so freaking adorable.
but, i'm dreading watching the next episode because i think it's the homecoming one where she almost gets her head cut open. and then the bizarre love story between her and Peter begins. which, isn't really a love story, because, they're actually related, right?
i just remember that when i thought they should have been hooking up on the show, they were actually hooking up in real life. and yeah, i was a little sad when they broke up.
anyways. that's all for now. just a little update. it's very dark and blustery out today. i approve.
OH!!! HAPPY CANADA DAY!

Ahhh....what i wouldn't give for some TimBits right now.....and an iced raspberry cappuccino.

And this is me, Kara and my dad in front of Lake Louise. taken while on our great canadian adventure. if i'm correct, that water is so blue because it's glacier fed.
man, that's a good looking canadian (and half canadian) family right there.
ALRIGHT. i just had a really nice phone conversation with my mom. on our new cell phones. it was exciting. i'm really excited for her because she's getting into the show House. i should let her borrow Sense and Sensibility so she can see some vintage Huge Laurie as Mr. Palmer.
alright. i have a glass of iced tea and a chocolate chip cookie to try and distract me from the scaryness that is about to be the next episode of Heroes. i can't tell if it will be more scary this time because i know it's coming, or less scary this time because i know it's coming.
i'll probably let you know.
have a great evening!!! so nice talking to you.
