i'll start with the not-so-best thing.
1. TOOTHPICKS. where the heck are they in the grocery store??? i spent like, 10 minutes of my life aimlessly walking around before i found like, fancy toothpicks that came with a fancy holder in the baking aisle. i saw NO OTHER toothpicks, so i unhappily purchased.
when i am president, want to know where the toothpicks will be? IN THE 'T' AISLE!
dear people of the united states,
you will thank me, because life will be much easier.
love,
your future president, julie
AND NOW FOR THE BEST THINGS.
1. i got my Crash Kings ticket for next week in the mail today! AND, my tiny PO Box was so full that i needed a package slip to get it. and who was there to greet me at the mail counter, you ask?
um, the ruggedly handsome postal worker who i have a massive crush on. which brings me to best thing number 2.
2.
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: Hi!
JULIE: Hi!
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: (tries to figure out my box number) 8....?
JULIE: Noo....
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: 4......?
JULIE: 2......
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: 248! No! Something in the thousands....
JULIE: 2057.
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: Oh! You should have scrambled the numbers so I would have to figure them out.
JULIE: Haha, next time!
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: Well you won't see me again for another.....two weeks or so.
JULIE: Why not?
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: I'm not down in this building very often.
JULIE: Well that's lame!
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: Well, you'll have to come visit me up in [names other NH town].
now, please go back and read that last sentence, just so you know that you are reading it right. he said to me, "well, you'll have to come visit me." YES. HE SAID THAT TO ME.
and then he came back out with my lovely Crash Kings ticket package and said,
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: 2057?
JULIE: Yes!
RUGGEDLY HANDSOME POSTAL WORKER: I keep thinking it's something with an '8.' Plus, you normally get Netflix, and this isn't a Netflix, so I'm all confused.
clearly, he meant flustered, because i was around. CLEARLY.
oh wow, it was wonderful. and he knew that i normally get Netflix. so, he totally knows me. and he's totally in love with me. and wants me to come visit him at his other USPS location.
OH. he's so ruggedly handsome. i love it.
and then i got in the car and put on 'You Got Me' which is a super sexy song, perfectly fitting for this momentarily sexy time in my day.
i love going into that post office. one day last week, i was there getting Netflix and they always put a package slip in my box when there are Netflix. so, i go in and there's a huge line of people. and i get my package slip from my box, and go stand at the end of the line.
and it's not the ruggedly handsome worker, it's another guy. who, i really like also. he's very nice and very polite. and i'm standing in the very back of the line when all of a sudden i hear, "Julie!!" and i look up and he's holding out my Netflix for me! at the counter!
so, i'm like, flipping out because i'm so happy and excited that he not only remembers my box number, but that he remembers my name! oh it was a wonderful time. and i didn't have to wait in line. which, i wouldn't have minded, because i like waiting in lines. but, still, it was great.
and then today, with the ruggedly handsome worker. wow, that was awesome. awesome a lot.
so now i'm going to make a sandwich because i haven't eaten anything yet today. and i'm hungry. and it's almost 6pm. and i'm going to eat my sandwich, watch Almost Famous and then do my NAIL ART activity.
i'm excited about today. and i was not excited about it because it took me so long to get dressed today. nothing was right. nothing was comfortable. nothing was pretty. and then it took a long time to get my hair right. which ended up just being in a low, side ponytail. and i ended up wearing just a long sleep black t-shirt and jeans. i think i was trying to do too much. too many layers, too many cardigans. at one point i thought about a dress. and then i was like, "NO, you're just going to the post office and the grocery store!" and that's when i decided to keep it simple. uncomplicate things. and i had on a bandana around my neck, but i even decided to take that off.
and it finally worked. and it must have worked, because now i have an invitation to visit the ruggedly handsome postal worker at the other location. win! i'm not actually going to go visit him. duh. that would be creepy and weird. but still, i can dream about it. yep. that's what i'll do.
OK. now onwards with my day!
hope you're having a lovely time.

shoe-less day
today is the day where you're not supposed to wear shoes, in support and recognition of people who don't wear shoes everyday.
Kristen Bell made a super cute video about it. she's going shoe-less.
so is Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas. so is Demi Lovato. AND all the Hanson bros.
i'm sure more people are too, but those are the celebs i know of. because i follow them all on twitter. except for Demi Lovato. but, i found out she was participating via Joe.
anyways. so far i haven't left the house. so it's been pretty easy.
i'm going through a debate right now. a debate over my earring. MY ONE PIERCING. which is constantly giving me problems.
it's infected again. i think the last time it was infected was just before the one-year mark. mid-march. now it's the beginning of april.
i've been online for a while this morning researching all the methods people go through to help the cartilage piercings heal and whatever.
sea salt baths.
chamomile tea hot compresses.
tea tree oil.
hydrocortisone cream.
i don't know what i should do. i like having the piercing, but how much longer until it stops getting infected? for real. will it get infected every month for the rest of my life?!?! it's been OVER A YEAR!
COME ON!
one guy was like, 'i poured sea salt into a mug with a chamomile tea bag and let it brew for a while. then i used it as a hot compress on my piercing three times a day. within two days it was better and never got infected again!'
i suppose i could try something like that. because i already have the sea salt from right after i got it pierced. kara's friend kate told her that sea salt worked better than what they gave you in the store. so, i alternated between both cleaning methods.
and right now i'm once again back to cleaning it three times a day with alcohol.
it was bleeding a lot again the other night. it seems to be bleeding more now when it gets infected then when it would first start to get infected.
i don't know. i'm kind of sick of it. but then there's the part of me that likes it. especially with my teal stud. and now that i have my teal streaks, it's like a super coordinating awesome mix.
anyways.
in other news, Netflix is sending me Zombieland today. i will get it tomorrow. i texted kara yesterday asking, "zombieland is at the top of my queue...what's your final word....is it too scary for me!?"
and she replied, "i think you can handle it. there are more funnies than scaries."
and i said, "what about grossies?"
and she said, "more funnies than grossies."
SO - i am getting it. and i will watch it. and i will finally hear 'It's Only Wednesday' in cinematic form.
also, last night i had a dream about the iPad. i had a dream i was typing on it. i typed, "i wonder..." and then i stopped typing.
let's see. what else can i tell you since i last blogged. oh, i don't know. i guess maybe that's it.
today is my big NAIL ART day. i woke up and realized that i don't have any toothpicks. and ideally, i would need toothpicks for NAIL ART day.
i guess i could go to the store and get toothpicks and chamomile tea bags.
maybe instead of blue nails with yellow stars, i want hot pink nails with black stars. or, black nails with hot pink stars.
i can hear babies outside right now. they are playing in the daycare lawn. it's very sweet.
i might take a shower. and then head to the store. but i think i'll wear shoes because i think you're supposed to when you go into stores.
i'm listening to the Twilight soundtrack again, and i really like the song, 'Slow Life,' by Grizzly Bear with Victoria Legrand.
alright. i suppose i'll talk to you later! after my big nail project.
i might watch Almost Famous too. i feel that watching it could maximize the chance that Crash Kings would want to be my best friend and let me tour with them in Ol' Blue. research purposes, ya know.
OK. have a great sunny day. i think i will. it's not as hott as it was yesterday.
take care!

meet me on the equinox
OK. big news. BIG NEWS.
i just finished watching Twilight: New Moon. YEP. that's right.
um, wow. i don't really know where to start.
ok yes i do.
i will start by saying that this movie needs to be re-edited. by like.... me. because that's what i was doing while i was watching it. i was re-editing it to make it shorter.
that scene after Edward deserts Bella in the woods? and then she collapses on the ground for like, ten hours? and then something happens and she has to be rescued by a shirtless werewolf human? remember that scene? YEAH. that's where i would start.
that scene takes like, half the movie. they could cut out some parts (which i have already picked out) and rearrange it a little bit, and THAT scene, plus the scene where the months and months are passing while she's sitting in her room being depressed could be cut down to shave off like, ten minutes of the movie.
that time passing scene was just boring. they could have either sped it up so the camera moved around her quicker, or did it some other way.
LIKE, the scene in Notting Hill when the seasons are passing and Hugh Grant is walking through the outdoor market. make it interesting like that. not just watching Kristen Stewart being all lame in a chair.
first order of business:
1. RE-EDIT TWILIGHT
next:
what's up with Bella being SO DEPRESSING all the time?!!? omg she was making me so angry. she is SO OBSESSED with Edward it's WEIRD! does anyone else think it's weird??
like, he is so totally mean to her right at the very beginning and leaves her alone in the woods to go live in Italy, or wherever, and then she spend the next two hours of the film being all depressed/obsessed, until she thinks he's going to die, and then she DROPS EVERYTHING and immediately gets on a plane to Europe!
and then does a lot of slow motion running through a town.
i don't know. it did not feel to me like it was, "aw, look how much she loves him!" it felt more like, "wow she is going crazy because she is so obsessed with him."
and this is a message to her dad:
Dear Bella's Dad,
Um, if your daughter is waking up screaming every single night from horrible nightmares and this continues for like, three months, don't you think you'd get her into some sort of counseling or something? Just thought I would mention that, since you seemed pretty annoyed that you kept having to go into her room and wake her up from all the shrieking.
Good luck with all that,
Julie
that annoyed me too.
ALSO ANNOYING: why can't Bella and Edward just HARDCORE MAKE OUT ALREADY!!??? every time they would kiss for like, one second and then he'd be like, "no!" does he want to bite her so bad? because she is so tempting? or is he just not into making out?
not like TAYLOR LAUTNER who just wants to make out with her all the time. but Bella's all, "no, i can't make out with you shirtless taylor lautner because i'm waiting to not make out with robert pattinson!"
um, okay. if Taylor Lautner was standing in front of me, saving me from motorcycle accidents, saving me from drowning, saving me from the dreadlock vampire in the field, saving me from the mean werewolf, giving me a dreamcatcher for my bad dreams, AND he was shirtless - i would probably make out with him. let's face it. i would.
another thing about Taylor Lauter: WHO DOES HE SOUND LIKE???!?!? when he speaks. he sounds like someone else. when i think of this 'someone else,' i think of a mix between Shia LaBeouf and Taylor Hanson. and for some reason i picture a bunch of government officials having a meeting. why? i don't know. maybe you can help me.
googling, 'who does taylor lautner sound like' was no help. also, googling, 'taylor lautner voice' just took me to a yahoo answers page with the subject, "does taylor lautner have a stupid voice?" which amused me.
and reading through all 14 pages of the Taylor Lautner message board on IMDb was no help. i mean.... i didn't do that. what?
ALSO, the score reminded me of another movie score and it was driving me crazy. i think it was a period film. Alexandre Desplat does the score for New Moon. which is funny, because i watched Fantastic Mr. Fox earlier today and he does the score for that movie too!!
ALSO, remember the other day i read that article on teal and orange and how they are taking over movies? i noticed it! for sure! in New Moon. especially towards the end. and i was proud of myself because i noticed it. like, reading this article and taking my newfound knowledge and applying it to a real-world situation.
ALSO - the scene where Edward and that other guy kept smashing each other into the marble floor? and the marble stairs? and the marble columns? remember that scene? that scene was awesome.
and i loved Bella during that part. i kept imagining the director off-screen yelling,
DIRECTOR OF NEW MOON: And now....LOOK SHOCKED!!!! OPEN YOUR MOUTH WIDER!! SPIN AROUND REAL FAST SO YOUR HAIR FLIES EVERYWHERE! Aannnddddd.....MESS UP YOUR HAIR! AGAIN!!!
oh, it was great.
and after all this criticizing/making fun of New Moon, it ended and i was like,
JULIE: NOOOO!!!!! It can't be over!!!!!! MORE MORE!!!!
yeah, i wanted the sequel immediately. good ending.
and now i'm listening to the New Moon soundtrack. which i already had on my laptop. and it's been on the Top Alternative Albums since like, the summer. or whatever. i like a lot of the music, actually.
The Killers = good song.
Muse = good song, but i didn't realize it was Muse until just now.
Death Cab = good song
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club = good song
and now for a band name mash up:
black sabbath rebel motorcycle S club seven mary three doors system of a down
YES. that was a good one.
anyways. back to New Moon.
eh, i liked it. amidst all my complaining and making fun of - i enjoyed it. i enjoyed all the shirtless, extremely ripped guys. even though i don't like guys who are extremely ripped.
ANYWAYS. let's move on.
let's talk about how hott it is in my apartment right now. it says it's 54 degrees outside. but inside my apartment currently, it is the kind of heat where you can't even move without getting sweaty and sticky. like, i'm all gross feeling, and i'm just sitting on the couch. typing. it's like the kind of sticky that you can't think about too much or else you'll go crazy. ya know?
horrible. and i bet if i walked downstairs, it would be like, 10 degrees cooler.
last night i woke up at like, 5am because i was soooooo hott and sweaty in bed. and i had to put in my window fan. YEAH! it was that bad.
for those of you who don't know - i live in an attic. for real. my apartment is what should be the attic of a very old house. it's quite spacious and lovely, but it's hott.
Ruby Tuesday has spent allllll day sleeping on her back. for real. everywhere. on the couch. on the windowsill. on my chair. on the floor. she immediately rolls over onto her back. it's very, very, VERY cute. i got pictures of at least three of the times. i will post them sometime.
anyways. i am also very tired. i almost took a nap at around 8pm. because i was so tired and bored.
it's like i am either so so super tired from not doing anything all day, OR i am so so super awake from not doing anything all day.
today i went to wal-mart and then to the grocery store. it was boring and lame.
but then i made a sandwich and watched Fantastic Mr. Fox. i got it from the Easter Bunny. OH, i love that movie. best movie of the year. hands down. it's so funny!
i can't remember what i did after that. i thought about taking a nap then, but it was too hott to be around blankets. and i have to have a blanket when i sleep.
tomorrow, which is thursday, i have plans to do NAIL ART. yep. nail. art. i want blue nails with yellow stars. and i will try and make it happen. that will be my creative project for the day.
i should try and do a creative project every day. i also thought i would go to the library. and try and read at least one book per week. because i read that other book last week in just one day. so, i can do more. and then i think i will not be as bored, and i will be productive at the same time.
last night i got REALLY REALLY excited because i was Twitter Stalking members of the Crash Queens, and there were all these tweets that were along the lines of, "i don't know if i would buy a jonas brothers ticket just to see crash kings. i don't think i would feel good about myself..." and people kept going on and on about Crash Kings and JoBros. and i was sooooo totally confused and then i was like,
JULIE: OHMYGOD ARE CRASH KINGS GOING ON TOUR WITH THE JOBROS?!?!!?!?
and i did some more research. and i think people were just talking about it hypothetically. omg i would die. if it were true. how amazing would that be?
I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING:
you're thinking: it would be two sixths of THE BRO TOUR!!!!!
HANSON
JONAS BROTHERS
CRASH KINGS
KINGS OF LEON
JET
with special guests
ROBERT and JASON SCHWARTZMAN
yeah. that was like, the first thing i thought of. no, i'm not joking.
if i were a super powerful tour putting together person, i think The Bro Tour might actually be pretty easy to put together.
BECAUSE
Robert Schwartzman is BFF with both Taylor Hanson AND Joe Jonas.
AND
Robert Schwartzman is in Rooney, who toured with Crash Kings, who are BFF with JET.
somebody really just has to let Kings of Leon know. Robert can also let Jason know, because they are bros.
and it would be super fun for all these boys because they're ALREADY friends! well, they have common friends.
and! i forgot about that tweet when Crash Kings was like, 'hey @joejonas let's jam together!' or whatever. after @joejonas was like, 'check out @crashkings! they're awesome!' or something.
so, Crash Kings and Joe Jonas are BFF too.
how come nobody is BFF with Kings of Leon? are those guys nice?
ok i should stop talking about The Bro Tour. i'm getting too excited. i should make up posters. what?! NO. no julie, you definitely should not make up posters for the bro tour.
ANYWAYS.
the other morning i woke up at like, 7am because i thought i heard someone walking across my room. it was pretty creepy, i'm not gonna lie. like, my floor was creaking so loud, that i woke up. YEAH. weird.
last night i woke up like, four times. ugh. it was not a good sleeping night. maybe that's why i so tired today.
i do not sleep well when i am in this house alone. it's a fact. because when i was home in maine over the weekend, i slept SOOO GOOD. like, i would fall asleep and not wake up until i woke up. and then i come back here, and wake up like, every two or three hours.
OH, should i apply for this job? it's to be a HEAD BLOGGER for Alicia Keys on her new website. i was going to apply until i read that one of the requirements is that IF you make it to the end of all the cuts, you have to be interviewed on a morning talk show in NYC. and then i was like, "ooo i don't want to do that." and so i didn't apply.
because clearly after reading this blog, they will want me to blog for Alicia Keys. and i will make all the cuts. YEP.
ok. it's 2am. i think i'm going to go to bed now. i turned on the window fan like, two hours ago so my bedroom could start cooling off.
OH, there was one more thing that i have had on my mind for like, MONTHS. for real. and i am now just thinking about it for the first time while i'm blogging so i can finally tell you.
FINALLY!
i decided that:
Morrissey sounds like the lead singer in The Smiths.
YEAH. right?!?! I KNOW. they sound alike. i think it's kind of hilarious.
OK. UPDATE: i just did some hilarious internet searching and discovered that Morrissey IS THE GUY in The Smiths. who knew?! and now i feel like an idiot.
for real! it's the same guy. no joke. i was watching that Smiths video and was like, "wow, that guy actually looks like Morrissey too!" and then i thought for a moment and was like, "...waaaiitt a second...." and then discovered they are one in the same.
NO WAY. oh, i can't believe it. i'm in shock right now. did everyone else know this?
MAN i thought this was going to be a big, funny ending to this blog post to think that the two guys sounded alike. but now i'm the one who looks like a jerk. geeze. really?
HA. wow. i'm in shock, for real. because i have seriously thought about this FOR SO LONG. and i always kept forgetting to tell you! and now look what we've discovered.
Morrissey seems like such a creeper. and The Smiths are all indie and hip. strange.
ah well. i guess we've just learned some music trivia. perhaps this moment will be a life-changing moment in your very own version of Slumdog Millionaire. and you'll be on a game show and the question will be like,
This singer was the lead vocalist for a popular 80's British alternative rock band and is now a popular solo artist.
(or whatever.) and you'll think back to this moment, RIGHT NOW, when you're reading my blog. wherever you are....whatever time of day or night it is. and you'll get the question right, and you'll win a million dollars. and you'll give some to me. for providing you with the correct answer.
wow, thanks friends!
ok. i'm going to bed. it's 2:18am. thursday morning. day of NAIL ART. yep. i'll let you know how it goes.
have a great day! i'll talk to you later. let's hope for some cooling off.
of the weather. not of our personalities. let's all stay cool. ok, good idea.
ok bye!!!!!

and now i'm listening to the New Moon soundtrack. which i already had on my laptop. and it's been on the Top Alternative Albums since like, the summer. or whatever. i like a lot of the music, actually.
(or whatever.) and you'll think back to this moment, RIGHT NOW, when you're reading my blog. wherever you are....whatever time of day or night it is. and you'll get the question right, and you'll win a million dollars. and you'll give some to me. for providing you with the correct answer.
wow, thanks friends!
ok. i'm going to bed. it's 2:18am. thursday morning. day of NAIL ART. yep. i'll let you know how it goes.
have a great day! i'll talk to you later. let's hope for some cooling off.
of the weather. not of our personalities. let's all stay cool. ok, good idea.
ok bye!!!!!

i am 75% cooler. (maybe 80%...)
folks, it's been a long road. a long, hard road to get to where i am today. lots and lots of uncool, unhott days. tormented and tortured from my normal hair, i somehow kept going. kept going, kept struggling, kept fighting.
how long have i talked about streaking my hair teal? by my count, it's been about five years. FIVE YEARS. for five years, it's been just a thought. just a conversation. just a dream.
a totally awesome, totally hott dream that is now REALITY.
i am finally a complete human being and after 24 years of being lame, i am finally cool. FINALLY.
you.have.no.idea.how.happy.this.makes.me.
not the cool factor, but the teal factor. THE TEAL FACTOR.
what i am about to show you may shock you. your computer may explode with awesome. don't say i haven't warned you. GET READY. GET STEADY. GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
(i had a photo shoot that probably lasted longer than it should have.....)

(TEAL HAIR AND RED PLAID SHIRT OMG!!!!!!)

the streak on my right came out way brighter because the hair was way more bleach-blonded out. but, i have a tiny streak right on the left side of my face, and then one further back on the left.

(that's me being confused as to why my hair has taken a 'Conan O'Brien-esque' turn.)

and now for the part where i change wardrobe and setting.....

OMG HOW AWESOME DOES IT LOOK?!??!?!!?!?

i decided to end with some artsy shots in front of my brick wall.
WOW. right?! it's so awesome. omg i can't even stand it.
i love it. i sooooo love it. and it's exactly what i pictured for these past five years. like, exactly. OH I LOVE IT. so much.
now, whenever i look at someone with awesomely colored hair, i will no longer feel that painful sting of jealousy, because I AM NOW one of those people with awesomely colored hair.
WATCH OUT - it's a whole new Julie.
i feel really good. because, there have been a lot of kind of drastic changes in my life over the past year. and it feels like none of them were my decision. let's look at some examples:
- cell phone died = had to get a new one
- laptop died = had to get a new one
- car died = had to get a new one
- kara took over my bedroom in maine = now i sleep in kara's room
- not getting any hours at work = might have to get a new job
and those are all things that, had they not changed, i would still probably have. (except for maybe the laptop.... because i really needed a new one. but i would have had the old one for longer, had it not died....)
AND THIS - the teal streaks in my hair - is some drastic change that i am in control of. i said, I WANT THIS CHANGE TO HAPPEN, as opposed to all the other changes, which have happened out of my control.
and i feel really good. things around me, outside me, may change, and i might not have any control over them. but i am in control of myself. and i am awesome. and 75-80% cooler than i was before.
SO THERE! there i am with teal streaks. finally. completely. awesomely. wonderfully.
wow, i'm totally hip, right? and RAD. yeah. i'm so rad. i'm trying to work 'rad' into my normal speak, but i keep forgetting about it. i want to be someone who says, 'rad.'
ok. this entry is bursting with so much awesome. hope you like the new hair. i loooove the new hair.
have a great, wonderful, lovely night, dear friends. i will. because i am going to watch Twilight. probably.
take care! be well!!!!
love!

success!!!!
i had a fulfilling, successful day! you may have gotten that impression from the previous blog post. i will elaborate:
:: i woke up this morning and thought, "UGH I AM ALREADY BORED." and i did not want to get out of bed, because although bored, i was comfy and warm. but eventually i got up.
still bored. and i kept thinking, "i wish i was night so then i could go back to sleep, wake up, and then go home." i thought that for a while. and then remembered that on thursday in a blog entry i had said i would read a book today.
JULIE: Hm, okay. I'll do that.
so, i made coffee. had a bowl of chocolate cheerios and vanilla soy milk and picked up my book, 'Things the Grandchildren Should Know' by Mark Oliver Everett, otherwise known as "E" from the band, Eels.
i had been talking about this book with my friend Andrew, because E is his hero and the person to which he holds the utmost respect. Andrew loves Eels.
and then! for my birthday, i got the book in the mail from Andrew. i was very excited about this.
and so today - i read it.
i started off by listening to some Eels to get in the mood. a little 'packing blankets.' a little, 'hey man (now you're really living.)' a little, 'love of the loveless.' i was excited to read.
so i started the book. immediately liked it a lot.
IF YOU REMEMBER FROM LAST SUMMER, (29 august to be exact) i posted a list that i had written of all the books i wanted to read. and this book was on there. i found out about this book through Darren from Phantom Planet.
i made the mistake of writing that list down on a piece of cardboard that i had lying around. Ruby Tuesday quickly turned it into a chewing toy and it's all chewed up on the floor of my recycling closet.
anyways - i finished the whole book!! started around.....2pm, maybe. finished around....7:30pm. maybe. it's a quick read! very sad, and very funny. but, not like most things where it's so depressing that it's funny. not like that. like, there were very funny parts, and very sad parts, but neither of those emotions were caused by the other one.
very sad. i kind of couldn't believe it. but, overall a very hopeful book. if you know all about his life, it really changes the meaning of the song lyrics. and he writes the song lyrics into the book during each crucial moment so you know which songs correspond to which times in his life. really well done.
and just overall awesome too, to see how he became an indie rock star. and the book ends with him performing at Royal Albert Hall and he kind of reflects on everything you've just read, and everything he's been through in his life, and it's very moving. and very satisfying. for both you and for him. i was so happy for him, it was crazy.
he talks about Elliott Smith too, and how they were friends and how upset he was when he died. he also talks about performing at KROQ and KCRW radio, which i thought was cool because i know those stations from Crash Kings performances.
anyways - great book. thanks andrew :)
i also put my real license plates on my car. it was a task i didn't want to do. mainly because it involved kneeling in the dirt holding a tool. a wrench, i believe is what they call it.
but, i did it. i changed the license plates. OH, but i forgot to change the sticker on the license plates. they did have the 2011 pink sticker on it. but, i have to switch it back to 2010. the 2011 was from my old car. i don't understand it. but, i actually really like the car, so i'll do what they tell me to do.
TODAY I ALSO:
- took a shower which made me feel very good
- read this article on the use of the colors teal and orange when making movies. apparently, it's a bad thing. I KNOW, it sounds totally awesome. but, it's actually lame. and it made me a little sad.
- ate a sandwich which was delish
- painted my fingernails hot pink and my toenails yellow
- packed my bag to go to maine!
- i also downloaded songs from this scottish band called, We Were Promised Jetpacks. i had heard of this band via a tweet from Crash Kings saying, "check out this band we heard at SXSW!" and i did, and i liked them. but forgot about them until this morning and then couldn't remember what they were called.
so i googled, "scottish indie band" and found this wikipedia article about all the scottish rock bands. love it! who knew that Franz Ferdinand was scottish?!!? i didn't! but, i found the band and discovered that their drummer's name is Darren Lackie. this made me immediately fall in love with the band, and also with Darren Lackie. what a great name, right?!?!? so great. if you don't think it's a great name - say it out loud in your best scottish accent. YEAH! so great!
anyways, their songs are pretty good. i like them. and although i'm not quite ready to put them in my awesome ipod playlist, i will continue to listen.
* SOMETHING I AM EXCITED ABOUT *
i am very excited about the movies i am getting from netflix on saturday. that's technically today for those of us reading on the east coast.
HERE'S THE AMAZING SELECTION I AM GETTING:
- The O.C.: season 2, disc 3
- Where the Wild Things Are
- Twilight: New Moon
NEW MOON!!!!! IN MY MAILBOX!!!!!!! i'm super excited! PATTINSON! ROBERT PATTINSON!
i hope the second movie features my chandelier! remember how they put it in the first movie?? yeah, that was really exciting.
also - if you read through that old blog post, i talk about dying my hair darker so that the teal streak will look more rockstar. so, apparently i was planning on for serious doing the teal streak sometime almost exactly one year ago. that was 28 march. whoa! crazy, right?
because i just dyed my hair darker last week so that the teal streaks would look more 'rockstar.' and i'm getting Twilight in the mail! kind of like deja vu. weird.
maybe it's a sign that once i streak my hair teal Robert Pattinson will want to marry me. hmm... i would probably say yes. he seems like a greasy boy.
FOR SERIOUS, now every time i hear a JET song i have to smile a little thinking about their greasiness. i am totally more attracted to them now that i know they rarely shower. WHY?!?! i don't know. i can't even explain it a little bit.
hm, what else.
it's currently 12:51am. saturday morning.
i haven't been sleeping very well lately. the past few nights it's taken me SOOOO LONG to fall asleep. one night it got to be like, 5:30am before i finally fell asleep. last night it was like, 4:30, i think.
but then, i'll wake up a few hours later and still won't be tired. and again, it takes me forever to fall asleep.
i guess i took that nap on thursday night. from 8:30 to 10pm. because i could barely keep my eyes open all day!
i think Kara suggested recently, "you should just become a vampire." maybe. maybe after i streak my hair teal, i will attract a vampire and then i will become one. and we will live together happily during the night.
but last night while i was sleeping, i had another dream where i went to a Crash Kings concert. actually, it was the one in West Chester that me and Ryan are going to. and before we left Boston i tweeted to them saying, "we're driving to the show from Boston! don't start without us! love, julie and ryan."
and then we got to the show, and that scary band Owl was playing. only, i think they were playing cover songs.
NO! here's what it was: it was this weird stage that was super tiny and like, half outdoors, half indoors. and Crash Kings and Owl would alternate songs. like, Owl play one song, Crash Kings play one song, Owl, CK's, Owl, CK's. for the whole show.
AND TONY was wearing a blue and black plaid shirt. and as soon as he came out on stage i said,
JULIE: OMG I have the same shirt!!
because, i do. i have that blue and black plaid shirt. and that's the one he was wearing. which made me do some deep, deep thinking about Tony and why i am so jealous/obsessed with his clothing. WHY? i don't know.
but back to the dream: i had my camera and was filming the show the whole time. but, whenever i looked through the camera lens at the show, it looked like it was in one of those crazy fun house mirrors. where everything is crazy shaped and distorted. but, when i looked in real life, it was normal. that was spooky.
and then there was one part where Tony actually got up and played a guitar. and i remember thinking,
JULIE: No, that's not right. It looks so strange...
and yes, it did look strange.
and i remember feeling bad because every time Owl would come onstage, most of the people in the crowd would leave. and one time, one of the guys in Owl said,
OWL GUY: Should we wait a few minutes to see if more people show up?
but then Crash Kings would come back on and the place would be packed. into the street! yep. because it was half indoors, half outdoors.
it was a strange dream. i also think it didn't take place in West Chester, but in Japan. like, it was the club in West Chester, only in Japan. i'm glad they're not playing in Japan, because we definitely couldn't drive there from Boston in 7 hours.
anyways - that was my dream. another Crash Kings dream. to add to the list of many. keep 'em coming, subconscious. i don't mind one bit.
OK. 1:06am. i might try and sleep. i just yawned. that is a good indication. although, meaningless. perhaps i'll pack up my computer and other such things so i will have less to do in the morning.
the less i have to do in the morning, the better chance i have of leaving on time. which, ideally, is 10am.
i'm going to drive to maine, and then my mom and i are taking my grandmother out for lunch. i am excited about this.
alright, friends. i hope everyone has beautiful, exciting plans for this lovely weekend. i have heard there is supposed to be nice weather. personally, i thought today was too bright.
ok! i am off to try and sleep. have a great night. take care. drive safe. be well. love.
<3!

but then, i'll wake up a few hours later and still won't be tired. and again, it takes me forever to fall asleep.
i guess i took that nap on thursday night. from 8:30 to 10pm. because i could barely keep my eyes open all day!
i think Kara suggested recently, "you should just become a vampire." maybe. maybe after i streak my hair teal, i will attract a vampire and then i will become one. and we will live together happily during the night.
but last night while i was sleeping, i had another dream where i went to a Crash Kings concert. actually, it was the one in West Chester that me and Ryan are going to. and before we left Boston i tweeted to them saying, "we're driving to the show from Boston! don't start without us! love, julie and ryan."
and then we got to the show, and that scary band Owl was playing. only, i think they were playing cover songs.
NO! here's what it was: it was this weird stage that was super tiny and like, half outdoors, half indoors. and Crash Kings and Owl would alternate songs. like, Owl play one song, Crash Kings play one song, Owl, CK's, Owl, CK's. for the whole show.
OK. 1:06am. i might try and sleep. i just yawned. that is a good indication. although, meaningless. perhaps i'll pack up my computer and other such things so i will have less to do in the morning.
the less i have to do in the morning, the better chance i have of leaving on time. which, ideally, is 10am.
i'm going to drive to maine, and then my mom and i are taking my grandmother out for lunch. i am excited about this.
alright, friends. i hope everyone has beautiful, exciting plans for this lovely weekend. i have heard there is supposed to be nice weather. personally, i thought today was too bright.
ok! i am off to try and sleep. have a great night. take care. drive safe. be well. love.

Short List of Today to Try and Hook You for a More Exciting Blog Entry to be Written Later
TODAY THESE ARE THE THINGS I HAVE DONE:
1. Read a book, "Things the Grandchildren Should Know" by Mark Oliver Everett
2. changed the plates on my car from the dealers ones to the real ones.
3. Google searched, "scottish indie band" until i found the name of this band i couldn't think of, We Were Promised Jetpacks. and i downloaded some of their songs.
now i'm going to take a shower. i hope this list worked and you will come back to read more in-depth about this exciting day. (which mostly consisted of doing #1, but still...)

"action is character"
oh, i had an uneventful day. it was so uneventful it was painful. and i had to take a nap because i was so tired from doing nothing. for serious.
i went to the post office. got nothing.
went to the grocery store. got lettuce and tomatoes. and, something else....OH, soy milk.
went home.
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING.
it was hotttttt outside today. which meant that it was really hotttt in my third floor attic apartment. and i had the windows open and there were children outside playing.
watched, An Education last night. LOVED it. i gave it five stars. just because i enjoyed it so much. it was kind of like the best of both worlds. 'chillin out, take it slow, and then you rock out the show.' no, those are Hannah Montana lyrics. just kidding.
but, it was like, YYEEAAHH, GO HAVE FUN AND BE CRAZY AND DO THINGS THAT ARE NOT BENEFICIAL TO YOUR LIFE!!!!!! and i was all excited!!! but then it was also like, YYEEAAHH STAY IN SCHOOL AND GET AN EDUCATION AND BE SMART!!!!!
i liked it. because she did BOTH OF THOSE THINGS very well. it had really good music. and i thought Peter Saarsgard did a great accent. and it was very funny. which i wasn't expecting. and, there was a Duffy song in the closing credits which i thought was cool. and i had never listened to Duffy before, and now i have two of her songs. including that one, Smoke Without Fire. and the one they played on the radio, Mercy.
so - YEAH. you should see that movie. Emma Thompson is really great. she has a tiny part. but, she's very good. and Olivia Williams, a.k.a. Miss. Cross (from Rushmore) is in it too. and Alfred Molina! from Spiderman....2? and also from my recording of Fiddler on the Roof.
let's see. what else.
OH! i bought exciting things online today:
1. BLUE and GREEN hair dye! to try and create TEAL. should i mix them before applying? i'm very excited for them to come. YESYESYES!!!!!!! i'm totally going to do it.
2. CRASH KINGS TICKET! 10 bucks! where? The Note, in glorious West Chester, PA. that's right!!! PENNSYLVANIA! me and Ryan are off on another wonderful road trip. LOVES IT. on 15 April. it's gonna be a tight squeeze, because she has class until 2pm. we're gonna BOOK IT, PUNCH IT, GUN IT to the show. the show is at 9. can we do it? um, heck yeah. because we create a Crash Kings Awesome that knows no limits.
what? i don't know. but, we're going. and i'm REALLY freaking excited. i thought i was going to have to wait until MAY 22 to see another show.
also, i believe today is Mike's birthday. 2 april.
SO. those are exciting things happening in my life.
also exciting is that i'm going home for easter! my fave holiday. i wish Ruby Tuesday could come with me. i'm excited to go home.
also excited for the drive home, because i really like listening to music in the new car. MP3 HOOKUP. best thing ever invented since soap. AND, just the normal cord doesn't charge the iPod, but, i still have my other ipod hookup from my non-mp3 enabled car, and i use that to charge, and the aux cord to play through the speakers!!!! it's truly a WINWIN situation.
and i have this great playlist that i've been listening to nonstop for a while. it started out just Crash Kings and JET. and then i slowly began adding other awesome things. like, Tally Hall. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Julian Casablancas. The Killers. Coconut Records.
speaking of Tally Hall - something awesome happened the other night....
i was checking my email and got an email from Twitter saying that @hiddeninthesand was now following me! this is the super Tally Hall Fan Twitter. like, SUPER. and i was pretty excited because THEY were following ME!!!!
and so then i started following them. and they sent me a message saying that they had found THIS VERY BLOG and read some awesome things about Tally Hall and thought that we would be a good Twitter match.
um, AWESOME, right?! yeah. i was pretty excited. still am.
Twitter is wonderful and if you're not on it - you should be. although, it's been very slow for me today. i think all the crazy kids doing foolery or what have you.
as i mentioned earlier, i took a nap this evening. i couldn't keep my eyes open and i was so bored, that i decided to go to sleep. from 8:35pm until 10:05pm. a late evening nap. and i had a dream that Kara and her boyfriend Clint came to visit me and they brought that chocolate raspberry mousse cake that i had in staff meeting for my birthday.
and i woke up and REALLY wanted that cake. yummm... it was a good dream. Ruby actually woke me up because she was ready for supper. and she kept licking my arm and i would wake up, and then immediately fall back to sleep. and then finally she climbed on top of me and started licking nonstop. now she's sleeping on the couch beside me.
OK. it's currently 12:26am. 2 april. possibly Mike's birthday. oooo Mike. i just want him to hug me all the time. while he's wearing that cardigan that is still the background on my desktop. and every time i see that picture i lose my breath a little.
alright now. i hope you are all having a much more exciting week than i am. maybe i'll read a book tomorrow. ok. i will.
have a great night! or morning or afternoon. whenever you read this. or skim this. whatever you do with these posts. (search for your name....maybe....)
i'll talk to you all later! today is friday, i believe. enjoy it!
