yikes it's hott

super hott and sticky here in the downstairs staff office.  tomorrow i have to remember to wear my hair up.  at least we've got the overhead fan.  man, it's rough.  i am so spoiled in my air conditioned apartment i can't even believe it.

we survived the state re-licensing.  we survived our interviews.  the quirky old guy totally put me on the spot when he was asking us about our physical combat training.  we said to him, "we're a 'hands-off' facility."  and he said, "but it's part of the rules."  and we said, "we know that.  and we're not certified in it because we don't think we need to be."

and then he turned to me and was like, "well, what would YOU do in a situation that involved a physical intervention???"  and i said, "i would try and deescalate the situation verbally rather than physically."  and he said, "but if you were trained in physically deescalating a situation, would you use it?"  and i said, "no, probably not."

i don't think they liked that.  but, it was the truth.  and everyone was pretty much saying the same thing.

and so then they said:

"but, you're the only one here overnight...what would you do in a physical situation?"

and then the old overnight supervisor stepped in and said, "well, i did the overnight for three years and there was never a situation like that...but if there was, and it was 3am and i was the only staff in the house, i would just call 911."

they still think we should be trained.  i guess they say that every year.

anyways.  ok, i'm ready for the night to be over.  i'm kind of fed up with things today.

everything from explaining that frozen hamburger won't kill you, to explaining why it isn't okay to say to someone, "i'm gonna kill you" even if you're joking.

so, Courtney and i had our first childbirth class.  YIKES it's a big responsibility being a labor coach.  i'm nervous now.  but, excited.  but, mainly nervous.  today we just went over the birth plan.  what she wants to happen and doesn't want to happen.  who she wants there and who she doesn't want there.  8 more weeks until the baby comes!  and then there will be a newborn baby around all the time!!!  aww, i'm excited to meet him.

we're going out for ice cream tonight.  it's too hott.  it seems like every shift i work we go out and get ice cream.  sweet deal.  but, their chores need to be done first.  i'll make sure of that.

and then i get to see Ruby Tuesday tonight!!!!  she's gonna be so happy to see me!!

UGH okay.  i have to go.

have a good night.  talk to you later
